X’Zandria Weil was raised in a single parent household by her mother in Wisconsin (she likes to reference that she got her good home down south roots from living in West Memphis, Arkansas).  According to statistics, she is suppose to be a single mother of at least 2 children, incarcerated at least two times , and high school drop-out.

X’Zandria refused to let society’s standards or statistics of Black American determine her life and where it is

supposed to go. She graduated high school, college graduate, wife, home-owner, business owner, activist, philanthropist, and no children (at least not yet).  She will tell anyone yeah it looks good now because I  did it but the journey was full of naysayers, trials, and tribulations.

X’Zandria’s main focus (besides her family) is being an activist for Black Americans and individuals that experience Foster care through Foster Youth Empowerment LLC. She knows that the same opportunities and accomplishments she has should be accessible and attainable for Foster Alums and Black Americans but it is NOT.

She is always pushing and encouraging others to be their best selves and beyond. If you have a goal she will encourage you to make it bigger. She doesn’t do small and believes others shouldn’t either.

In this episode we talk about:

  • from an early age always feeling that she wanted to help at risk youth and empower people to believe in themselves and what they are capable of
  • studying criminal justice in college and starting her work in a detention center with at risk youth
  • the reality at working with and rehabilitating at risk youth and how she does her work
  • how she relates to the kids she works with and uses vulnerability to create connection and trust
  • how she came to be so passionate about kid’s in foster care
  • her vision for Foster Care Empowerment
  • how foster care is a billion dollar industry and who she wishes that money was being used
  • why she also offers support and courses for interacial families and those with black foster care children or adoptive children
  • things to think about if you are raising or taking care of a black child and you are a different race and for interracial families
  • what we as individuals can do to support foster care children locally without being foster parents
  • sex traffickers targeting foster care children
  • how we as individuals can make a difference in people’s lives and likely do it in ways on a daily basis without knowing it
    • Which keychain she chose from my line and why!
