Courtney is an integrative nutritionist (MS) and “real foodist” on a mission to make healthy eating easier and normalize mental health. She received her masters of Science in Nutrition and Integrative Health from Maryland University of Integrative Health. She is the creator behind Realfoodology on instagram where she posts real food recipes, educates on the dirty practices of the food industry and normalizes mental health. She doesn’t believe in diets and promotes a real food approach to eating.

In this episode we talk about:

  •  how we both grew up knowing we wanted to work in the music industry, specifically touring
  • getting an internship at Epitaph, working the door at clubs and doing anything to be around music
  • how she got her start as a tour manager
  • learning the job on the job
  • where her interests in health and wellness began
  • how challenging it can be to eat well and take care of yourself on tour (especially when we first started)
  • leaving tour to move back to Texas, go back to school to learn nutrition and working at Whole Foods
  • why after getting very close to getting her Registered Dietician degree she chose not to continue that route based on what they were teaching and pursue a degree in Integrative Nutrition
  • what drove her to not just pursue wellness and nutrition for herself but wanting to have a degree and work with others
  • imposter syndrome and what led me to get a certicitation at the Institute of Integrative Health
  • why touring is so hard and also why it is so amazing and worked for us both
  • why she chose to stop touring
  • the necessity of making space to do the things you want to do which may mean saying no or leaving something you love
  • losing both of her siblings and the effect that had on her and the family dynamic
  • how the loss of her siblings made her be super independent  and a lone wolf
  • why and when I gave up the word “should”
  • allowing her friends to fully support her and being vulnerable with them
  • how overconsumed with our phones we as a society weare and how that leaves us very little time to tune into ourselves and reflect
