It really isn’t.
Just now I went to journal. It has been a while actually and it took me a minute to find a good page to start to write in one of the journals I have near my desk. I finally found a clean page free of doodles, lists and brain dumps and grabbed what has become my favorite black pen.
I started to let it flow onto the page, but then stopped and thought why do I use this pen? It does not help my messy handwriting it makes it messier. It has a good flow and feels good in my hand but it maybe flows too good for me. Which leaves to more messiness. Why do I use this pen?
I bought this set of pens because I saw one of my favorite people rant about how it was her favorite pen to write about. I took note and the next time I was at an office supply store I bought them to try. It’s a nice pen. I can see why it is someone’s favorite, but really, it is not mine. Why am I writing with it? Because it is there mostly. But it doesn’t make me feel good. Pretty much every time I use it, I am thinking, man my handwriting is so messy. It is not my favorite pen, but it has become that out of habit, because it is what I have. Because someone else said it was their favorite and I didn’t really do any pen research of my own to find my favorite.
This small thing, this pen, is a big reminder to me and hopefully to you too, that not everything is for everyone.
We are all unique souls with unique tastes. What works for your mother, your sister, your best friend, your guru, your boss, your business coach, may not be for you. And that’s okay. It is actually perfect. How boring it would be if we all did everything the exact same way and had the exact same tastes.
You don’t have to like that restaurant because they do.
You don’t have to drive that car because they do.
You don’t have to dress like that because they do.
You don’t have to choose A because they do.
You don’t have to do what they do.
You don’t have to have the same guru/teacher that they do.
You don’t have to eat like they do.
You don’t have to do the same time of yoga/exercise that they do.
You don’t have to use the same pen that they do.
Not everything is for everyone. Not everyone will like what I write. Not everyone will like what I wear. Not everyone will like what I say. But that doesn’t mean that there is something wrong with me. That doesn’t mean that I have to change who I am or how I write, dress, speak.
We are all unique. We are all constantly growing. We are all constantly learning more and more about ourselves.
Allow yourself to like what you like.
Allow yourself to dress how you want to dress.
Allow yourself to say what you want to say.
Allow yourself to be who you are.
There is a place for us all and the world needs us to be who we are. I mean if it didn’t there would only be one type of pen to use, right? HA! I had to bring it back to the pen that stirred this all.
This is just what I need right now .. -_-
